Training and Orientation

Onboarding Training Requirements

Before access is granted to the systems at ORNL, prospective users must complete all training requirements. While this site is NOT the official training site for the VA environment, information listed below will provide researchers awareness of training requirements, and where possible, links to the training material to get a head start on completion of the training.

Human Subjects/HIPPA Training (CITI Program)

  • Instructions: If you have not already completed this training, please follow the instructions below to access the CITI training system and complete the designated modules.
    • Access the CITI (source of human subject’s research training) at the following URL https://www.citiprogram.org/
      • Create an account and affiliate with your institution (or Other DOE if not listed)
      • Select Curriculum
        • Answer question 1 as – Yes, this if my first time using the CITI Program
        • Answer question 2 as – Biomedical Research
        • Leave question 3 and 4 blank
        • Click Submit
      • You will see a message that you are successfully registered.
      • You will then be able to access the online training by selecting Main Menu to see your courses.
      • You are required to also complete “Research and HIPAA Privacy Protections” listed in the elective/supplemental modules.
      • Once you complete the course, download the completion report, which includes a list of all modules completed.
  • Please note if you have already completed this training you only need a copy of the completion report. You do not need to retake the training. Please save your report for use following approval of your project.

  • VA MVP Rules of BehaviorSummary: VA MVP project researchers should complete the Data and Computational Sciences (DACS) Core Systems Users’ Code of Conduct form. Form is distributed from the VA MVP Coordinating Center

ORNL Required Training

  • Cybersecurity Awareness: This training is business sensitive and will be provided following approval from your organization.Summary: This training provides basic cybersecurity awareness training highlighting the need to protect information systems.
  • Personal Privacy Protection at ORNL: This training is business sensitive and will be provided following approval from your organization.Summary: This training provides awareness training for protecting personally identifiable information.
  • KDI Rules of Behavior: This training is business sensitive and will be provided following approval from your organization.Summary: This document lists the rules of behavior for working in the KDI environment.

User Orientation

Welcome to the user orientation page. Orientation events are for vetted active users who are interested in learning more about the systems and tools. Orientation events will be scheduled later, and registration will be required.
